Surrey Badger Half Marathon
About the Badger - ENTRIES CLOSED

The inaugral Surrey Badger Half Marathon will be held on Sunday 7th September 2008 at 9am.  Download race day instructions here

This fantastic event in the beautiful Mole Valley Countryside offers a challenging target for those wishing to complete a scenic half marathon for the first time.  It is also perfectly placed for those training for an autumn marathon.

Starting from Leatherhead Town Centre the route follows bridle ways heading out towards Mickleham before turning right into Norbury Park allowing exploration of the beautiful Surrey Countryside.  In fact, the managers of the land, the Surrey Wildlife trust, were the inspiration for the name of the race, the Badger being their logo.   The course is an out and back over multi terrain and has a fast flat start and finish but is a tad bumpy in the middle.  If you're really lucky, you might see one of the Surrey Badgers the area is famed for.

The historic market town of Leatherhead is billed as 'the gateway to the Surrey Hills'.  It provides an excellent base for visitors wishing to explore the area.  Located just off Junction 9 of the M25, Leatherhead is very easy to get to.  Fast road and rail inks also provide easy access to central London.

The Route

The first and last 4 miles of the course are out and back with a single loop of around 5 miles.  The course is mult-terrain encompassing tarmac, bridlepaths, grass and muddy tracks.  The course is undulating with a steady climb for about 2 miles up to the Sawmill (of course that does mean a steady descent on the way back).  There are five water stations en route highlighted as WS on the map.  As well as water, jelly babies will be available on route.

Race HQ

The race HQ is Leatherhead Leisure Centre.  A map and details of the HQ can be found here.  There are toilets, showers and secure baggage facilities available.
