London Marathon

The realisation of thousands of dreams culminated on 13th April at the 28th running of the Flora London Marathon.  Celebrating the centenary of the modern day course distance of 26 miles and 385 yards, Run to Live were delighted to be there again this year.

After chronic sunburn in 2005 and 2007 the sunny but cool conditions were greeted with relief.

Occasionally the brightness gave way to ominous clouds and Monsoon downpours at times but generally perfect conditions led to many improving on their times of last year.

Once again, many fabulous costumes were displayed

And of course, one of the best things about marathon is the course entertainment.  Fortunately, this year less Chariots of Fire

or (Is this the Way to) Amarillo and more of this...

The queue for the loo wasn't too bad either

People often ask about the rollercoaster of emotions experienced during the marathon.  The route of the course often provides the triggers for those highs and lows.  The wilderness of the Docklands just beyond the half way mark can be tough for some.  At a point where the miles bring you closer to THE WALL, niggles turn into full blown pains and high buildings make it difficult to identify landmarks, you can feel that you're never going to make it back to the Embankment.  What makes this worse?  Seeing all the runners who've done it already running back the other way

That's the worse part over so what about the best bit???

Well actually... the best bit
