The Run to Live staff have enjoyed travelling to various places for an Autumn marathon. This year, we decided to take on the Abingdon Marathon. Seven people signed up for the training group and loosely followed a training programme provided by Runner' World. The group have been fantastic at supporting, assisting and encouraging each other. It has ensured that no one has to train on their own, they have even accompanying sole runners on bikes at times. Despite a few gammy knees, a seized quad, achy hips and dodgy achilles the whole group managed to toe the start line on 19th October. All did fantastically well. Alan (despite having 3 months off due to sciatica) was first back just 5 minutes outside his PB in a cracking 3.36. Phil, Jules and Sally (pictured above) all stormed home under 4 hours, although poor Sal had to sprint for the sub 4 finish, ouch! Baz (4.11) and Andrew sub 5 ensured smily faces at the finish. The only casualty of the day was Nicky who had to withdraw at 14 miles. She said "I was gutted to have to pull out but it wasn't worth risking a long term injury. The best part was that I got back to see all the others coming in which I would have missed otherwise". Do you need help training for marathon 2009? We will be running the buddy scheme again for Marathon 2009. We aim to match people of similar abilities to swap encouragement, advice and run together. You will also get the benefit of our expertise for training plans, nutritional information, target races and motivational hints and tips to get you round. We already have over 20 people signed up to train for the London (26th April) and Paris (5th April) Marathon 2009. This will be the first marathon for a number of those people. E-mail us now at
