NEW Come along to the monthly social held in the Brewery Public house on the first Tuesday of each month. The idiosyncratic Rob McCaffrey (Dr Rob) of union jack shorts fame started Ashtead Running Group with one goal in mind, persuading like minded individuals to take up a sport he loves. The group meet on a Tuesday and follow a varied training regime covering between 3-6 miles. And best of all, it's free! Winter months see them pounding the roads of Ashtead however, come spring they venture off road exploring Ashtead Common and surrounding trails. The pace is suitable for all standards. Come along Tuesday evenings either 7.30pm at the Memorial Car Park in Woodfield Lane or the Run to Live Store at 7.20pm. Dr Rob is also renown as being the organiser of a group of races throughout the year. All proceeds of his races go to charity. They are famous for being friendly, fun and fiercely tough. All vary in distance and are run in and among the Surrey Hills. Dr Rob manages to find hills where none exist. It takes a particular talent to be so cruel. We've tried them all and we love them*. The exhilaration, the cameraderie, the views, the sweets at the water stations, the grossly funny medals, the fancy dress (click here for photos of Borat at this years Knacker Cracker) all make for a fantastic experience. But don't take our word for it... check it out at www.trionium.com * except the Picnic - start training now for the next event in 2009 (we'll never be drunk enough to say Yes!) |
